While reading the Holy Quran, Tajweed is necessary as it gives every letter of the Quran its significant meaning that it carries when recited, and the rules must be observed and applied to those letters in different situations throughout the Quran as many of the words are repeated several times in the Quran. Many times, two letters are pronounced in a similar manner which a person might mix up while speaking, so it is obligatory to have grasp on the various attributes of each letter. Tajweed helps to recite Quran effectively as pronouncing incorrectly also changes the meaning of the words when reciting. Following the rules of Tajweed protects a person from making mistakes while reciting the literal words of the Holy Quran. Makhraj is a term given to Arabic letters that have an articulation point which originates in the mouth or throat and they also each have Sifaat which are characteristics specific to them. It is necessary for every Muslim, both Arabs and non-Arabs, to learn and apply the Tajweed rules while reading the Quran. Knowledge about Makhraj and Sifaat of each letter is an essential part of Tajweed for correct accent, pronunciation and meanings of Quranic words.
